It is well known that caloric restriction to 25-20% the usual basal metabolic requirement extends lifespan across multiple species. There are some data showing consumption of polyphenol antioxidants also extends lifespan in some species.

Happy Birthday to Jirouemon Kimura of Japan.
Mr Kimura was born on April 19, 1897 and thus turns a remarkable 115 years old today. He is the oldest man alive and the third oldest verified human in the world.
Kimura has continued to be able to walk with the aid of a walker and takes in three meals per day. He also reads the newspapaer daily.

On February 1st, Leila Denmark turned 114 years old. This makes her the fourth oldest known person in the world and the oldest known age a physician has ever attained.
Denmark lives in Georgia, the same state she was born in and practiced pediatrics. S he practiced medicine for 70 years before she retired at age 103.

A group of scientists in Japan have achieved a remarkable feat. They have succeeded in producing pluripotent stem cells derived from a group of people over age 110. The cells will be differentiated into multiple organ types in the lab and studied intensively .

It was just yesterday that we learned Maria Lucimar Pereira was discovered living in the Amazon at 120 years of age making her the new world’s oldest person by six years.
Provided to authenticate the claim was a pdf of her birth certificate dated in 1890.

It was just reported by the group Survival International that a woman living in a remote region of the Amazon is now the world’s oldest living person.
According to officials, an authentic valid birth certificate exists for Maria Lucimar Perereira which dates back to September 3, 1890. She will therefore furn 121 years old on Saturday, making her six years older than former oldest person Besse [...]

Besse Copper is the oldest living human being. She turned 115 today August 26 having been born on the same date in 1896
Ms. Cooper is not the oldest person who ever lived, that distinction goes to Jeanne Calment who was 122 years, 164 days old when she died in 1997.
Needless to say it is very rare for people to live to 115, there are only 24 known verified instances of people living to that age [...]

A profoundly concerning study was just published by one of the nation’s leading gerontology groups at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
What it showed was that people aged 95 years or older were “no more virtuous than the rest of us in terms of their diet, exercise routine or smoking and drinking habits,” said the authors.
