She was bornon September 24, 1880 and died on December 30, 1999 at the age of 119 years.
She was born and died in Pennsylvania where she spent her whole life.
Initially she was skilled as a seamstress but after marrying became a homemaker working part time on a family run insurance business. She was said to live a “quiet life”.
Family members largely attributed her longevity to her very “tranquil” attitude, described as a person for whom “nothing fazes.” When in 1997 she learned she had become the worlds oldest person she replied “So what?”
In her obituary she was said to enjoy watching golf on television, doing needlepoint and munching on chocolate turtles, cashews, and potato chips.
